What is Screen Printed Tees?

Here's how screen printing works. We push ink through a fine mesh stencil directly onto the fabric. Each colour gets its own screen, applied one layer at a time. The result is colour density and durability that digital methods genuinely cannot match. The plastisol or water-based inks we use cure into the fabric under high heat, forming a permanent bond. Over time the print develops a softer hand feel while staying crisp and vivid. For small quantities or photographic designs where screen printing doesn't make sense, see our heat transfer for small batches.

Our Auckland screen printing workshop handles bulk t-shirt runs with dead-consistent quality across every single shirt. We do business uniforms, sports team jerseys, corporate event apparel, school tees, promotional merch, and band merchandise. Screen printing gets more efficient the more you order, so it's the smart pick for runs of 25 or more.

Auckland businesses from Henderson to Howick keep coming back to Creative Design and Print for screen printed t-shirts because the quality holds up year after year. We follow standards set by the Print NZ industry body for production and finishing. Need formal workwear too? Check out our staff uniform solutions with embroidered or printed branding.

When You Need Us

When You Need Screen Printed Tees

1

Business Uniforms and Workwear

Tradies, hospo staff, retail teams. Screen printing handles industrial wash cycles and the general wear and tear of physical work without the print cracking or fading.

2

Sports Teams and Clubs

Rugby clubs, social leagues, touch teams. The prints flex with movement and survive mud, sweat, and the washing machine. We've done thousands of sports jerseys.

3

School and Educational Groups

Class tees, camp shirts, school event gear. Parents love it when the shirt still looks decent after a full year of their kid wearing it every second day.

4

Corporate Events and Conferences

Trade shows, company retreats, conferences. Matching screen printed shirts give your team a unified look that represents the brand properly.

5

Promotional Campaigns

If you're giving away branded tees, screen printing makes sure they last long enough to generate the impressions you're paying for. Nobody wears a promo shirt that falls apart.

6

Community Groups and Fundraisers

Churches, charities, local groups. Screen printed tees for fundraising merch or event identification that doesn't quit after a few washes.

7

Music, Bands and Event Merch

Band merch, venue tees, festival gear, retail merch lines. Fans keep these shirts for years. The print needs to last as long as the memory and look like a real product, not a giveaway.

8

Annual Event Apparel

Annual conference, charity run, school camp. We keep your specs on file so this year's batch matches last year's batch.

Our Process

Our Screen Printed Tees Process

01

Design Consultation and Artwork Review

Send us your artwork and we'll go through it together. We advise on colour choices, placement, and any tweaks needed to get the best screen printing result. Vector files give us the sharpest output.

02

Artwork Preparation and Colour Separation

We separate your design into individual colour layers and produce high-resolution film positives for each one. Sharp edges, accurate colour reproduction.

03

Screen Creation and Quality Check

Each film positive gets exposed onto a screen using UV light, creating a precise stencil. We inspect every screen before it touches a garment.

04

Garment Selection and Colour Matching

We help you pick the right blanks for your job (fabric weight, cotton content, all of it). Then we hand-mix ink colours using the Pantone system to match your brand exactly.

05

Test Print and Approval

Before the full run, we print test samples. You check the colour, the placement, the overall look. Nothing goes into production until you're happy with it.

06

Production Run with Quality Controls

Your order runs through production with checks at every stage. Consistent pressure, consistent ink coverage, consistent curing. Every shirt in the batch comes out the same.

07

Curing, Inspection and Delivery

Every shirt goes through our curing process at the correct temperature for maximum durability. Final inspection before packaging, then delivery to your Auckland address or pickup from our Henderson workshop.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Creative Design and Print for Screen Printed Tees?

Industrial Wash Durability

Plastisol inks cure right into the fabric fibres under high heat. The prints survive industrial laundering, trade-site abuse, and years of weekly wear. No cracking, no fading.

Bulk Quantity Economics

Screen creation is a one-time cost. After that, each extra shirt adds very little production time. Runs of 50, 500, or 5,000 all get progressively more efficient.

Opaque Ink on Dark Fabrics

Screen printing lays down thick, opaque ink that pops on black, navy, and dark garments. Digital methods often look washed out on dark fabric. Screen printing doesn't have that problem.

Custom Pantone Ink Mixing

We hand-mix inks to your exact Pantone spec. No digital colour simulation. Your brand colour is your brand colour, on every garment.

Specialty Ink Options

Metallic finishes, glow-in-the-dark, puff print, water-based soft-hand inks. If you want something beyond standard flat colour, we can make it happen.

Annual Reorder Consistency

We archive your screens, ink formulas, and garment specs. When your sports team, school, or company reorders next year, it'll match the last batch exactly.

Frequently Asked Questions - Screen Printed Tees

100% cotton gives the best results. Excellent ink adhesion and a nice soft finish. Cotton-poly blends work well too, though we adjust the ink accordingly. Pure polyester needs specialised inks to stop dye migration, which is a whole different thing.
Most jobs sit between one and six colours. We can go higher for complex designs, but honestly, simpler artwork often looks better on a tee. And fewer colours means each screen costs less to set up.
Plastisol is the workhorse. It cures to a flexible, colourfast finish that handles industrial washing without flinching. If you want a softer feel (especially on lighter cotton garments), water-based inks are excellent too.
Three culprits. Under-curing during production, wrong ink choice for the fabric, or washing on too high a heat at home. We control the first two with proper quality processes, and we include care instructions so you can manage the third.
Over-curing, excessive ink buildup, or tumble drying on high heat. That's usually what does it. When screen printing is done properly, the print flexes with the fabric and cracking isn't an issue.
Yes. We use the Pantone Matching System and hand-mix inks to your exact spec. Your brand blue is your brand blue, not 'close enough.' That consistency carries across to any future reorders too.
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are ideal because they scale cleanly to any size. High-res PNG or PSD at 300dpi also works. Not sure what you've got? Send it through and we'll advise.
